DB: "Uh, who said anything about Paul Cameron? By experts, I mean generals and other military brass."

Err, like I just finished saying, uniformed military were citing Cameron in various reports and statements. That tells you, in case it wasn't already obvious, that the people who were supposed to be experts were in fact clueless on the subject.

Uh, who said anything about Paul Cameron? By experts, I mean generals and other military brass. For example Colin Powell was very important in convincing people to support DADT. If the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff comes out and supports lifting DADT, that should have a major impact on Congress and the President.

DB: "To be clear, I would like to see gays and lesbians serving openly in the armed forces, but only _when_ the experts determine it won’t undermine the military mission" [MB's emphasis]

You're ludicrously too charitable. Your statement presumes that there was a time in the past when actual experts decided that gays in the military _would_ undermine the military mission. When DADT was being thrashed out, the anti-gay "experts" from the actual uniformed military were citing Paul Cameron for crying out loud. Cameron started off as a legit psychologist but later went completely lunatic. His gay-related research is the worse nonsense, and he's been cashiered from the APA and reprimanded in federal court for misrepresenting evidence. Anyone who cites him isn't an expert, they're a clueless hack.
